EA Sports NCAA Football Latest Update!

NCAA games were some of EA’s more popular franchises but despite the popularity, the series was dropped due to pending litigation at the time. The heart of the issue surrounded the fact that student athletes had their likeness used for the games, and other items that made everyone else but the athlete money; however, that soon may be changing… Full Story:

NCAA Football was an American football video game series developed by EA Sports in which players control and compete against current Division I FBS college teams. The series is a younger brother to the Madden NFL series.

In July 2013, the NCAA announced that it would not renew its licensing contract with Electronic Arts because of an ongoing legal dispute regarding the use of player likenesses in the games. However, this contract only covers the use of the NCAA name and related logos, not those of individual schools and conferences, which are negotiated individually or through the Collegiate Licensing Company. The CLC concurrently announced that it would extend its existing licensing deal with EA through 2017, ensuring that EA Sports could continue the series without the NCAA branding. However, the series was placed on hiatus in September 2013, following three major conferences pulling their trademark licenses from EA, and uncertainties surrounding the results of lawsuits involving the use of player likenesses in-game. However, EA Sports is still making an attempt to get the series back going.

Players’ real names and exact likenesses are not used in the game. While the Madden NFL series uses real player names and likenesses, those players are compensated for the use of their image. Due to NCAA restrictions on the amateur status of athletes, names are not allowed. Additionally, current college players cannot be used as cover athletes. Instead, each cover features a player whose college eligibility ended the season before the game’s release, wearing his former college uniform. The only two exceptions have been the Wii version of NCAA Football 09, which featured Sparty, the mascot of Michigan State University, on the cover, and NCAA Football 06 when Desmond Howard was featured on the cover striking the Heisman Trophy pose during his career at Michigan, despite not playing for Michigan for more than 15 years.

Although EA Sports does not claim that the players in the game represent real life players, the jersey number, position, height, weight, home state, and ethnicity are aligned with the real players. Fans of any particular team are sure to recognize their favorite players (for example, in NCAA Football 2014, University of North Carolina Tar Heels QB #2 would correspond to QB Bryn Renner). Actual usage of a player’s real name would be in violation of the NCAA’s policy regarding student athletes. Amateur “roster makers” will often manually associate player names and will upload a roster file to the built-in roster sharing system. As of the 09 release, EA has put in the EA Locker feature which allows remote roster sharing online through either Xbox Live or PlayStation Network depending on the console.

  2. oh money says

I don't want EA back on NCAA. Ima need for 2K to step in. EA done already fucked up Madden. And everyone knows gameplay and features were always a step behind in the NCAA games. I don't want no half ass Madden.

  3. Shawn Clement says

I agree that players should get paid, however I also believe that full ride scholarships should only go to those NOT being paid and would not otherwise be able to afford a college education. You get paid? You pay for education like everyone else.

  4. IPad Gamez says

    Here to say……FUCK YOU EA

  5. Amnistar says

D3,d2,d1 student athletes get money and a free ride to college thsts bs and not fair

  7. just wiz says

  8. Angel O'Connor says

Miss ncaa football im still playing 2014

  9. Slick Editz says

All I fucking want is to play college football

  10. My name is August West says

These student athletes are being compensated already. Free room, board, stipend and unlimited access to campus facilities. The money EA makes should be divvied up to the colleges who would then have to increase stipends and upgrade all athletic facilities with the money. The entire team would benefit instead of the few stars who are going to be gladly compensated in the NFL anyways in just a few short years.

  11. 2wheelphoto says

See this is a stupid rule in my opinion. How is a school going to tell somebody they can’t run a business while attending or have a job while attending? Are students who wait tables or work in retail not allowed to be paid? What’s the difference? Football and Basketball teams make colleges a TON of $$$. So those players (who can get hurt, crippled or even die, just as easily as pro players) should be permitted to earn income from their hard work.

  12. Justin Ainsworth says

Solution — National Standard tuition program (Money granted per Division) to regulate outrageous tuition fees.
Problem– "'Mr. Clinton sold every one of our retirement plans.''JA. 1987-2000 ; America spends/loses Trillions/China secretly bails us out. Who repays ? 2001..The BIG banks…the Bigs pass debt to sister/local banks who, in return, raffled out over-priced homes to simple-minded buyers, purposely. Key-"UNSECURED LOANS" 2005 State/local banks clear debt by selling forclosures to State..selling remainding active loans to Temp Lenders(+++interest rates). Who, tripled mortgage on Unsecured Homeowners loan. Thus causing customer bankruptcy resulting in the Federal Ballout in 2008. Fed Banks were handed a free pass.  Who pays for the FED B.O? Millennials. We've already sworn our debt wneh we allow federal oversight through Healthcare, Social Security, and Welfare. Education is the last core necessity to control. From 2008-2012 Obama handed out more school grants/loans than all other POTUS combined. Dropout rates soared giving the schools 'more' reasons to increase tuition. Now tuition fees are monstrous…and the ''unpayed'' debt is piling up.
Result —  Monopolization of Universities. Basically a private stock exchange for the wealthy. Federal Goverment funds most schools today. 54%fed>46%state funded. ''They'' choose if we get more than just Ncaa Football now. Im sure Big Brother can order another "loan" for these college student athletes though..

Rant over.. pass the ketchup.. Roll Tide?

  13. MarloSoBalJr Gaming says

NCAA 20 is gonna be like Madden. EA is crap corporation; worst these days than years prior. The mechanics are gonna be glitching nightmare. If I'm playing NCAA Football, it'll be from 2008 just like the last Madden I've ever played since.

  14. jonathan campbell says

This is only me, I don’t play college games for the player on the team. I pick my team, make player after myself. So with that being said is EA Sports going to pay me for my likeness also.

  15. Michael Monroe says

    Is this a mod?

  16. Ilove music says

Who still have hope or have we all just given up?

  17. mcdaniel 386 says

Everyone need to stop bitching and just fucking bring the game back next year

  18. Sons of the Edelweiss says

You have no idea what you are asking. There is enough parity in college football as it is. Think of all the other college sports that will no longer exist at the Div 1 level.

  19. Peck Proctor says

Just because California football players can get paid means they’ll never be a ncaa football game because they don’t wanna pay any players, especially if they only have to pay Cali players the rest of the colleges would flip there shit. Oh and the game would never make enough money to pay them. ncaa 14 made 80 million and if you didn’t pay anyone but the players included in the game and I mean nooooobody else the players would only make $5480.95. That means no coaches no schools no game developers or publishers. They’ll never do it sorry.

  21. G M says

Unpopular opinion: College athletes should not be paid.

  22. Retr0sp3ct says

Honestly I don’t want an ea college game because it will be madden but with college jerseys

  23. YK_Beats says

Schools make billions off theses kids coaches make millions off thses kids

  24. chadbailey30 says

I've never understood why they couldn't just pay the Univ. to use their trademarks and just make each time you pick a team it completely random. That way you get the teams, the game, the fun but just random players.

  25. NotreDameDude88 says

What are you playing on junior varsity

  26. Pennywise Wadford says

    Lost me at James. Duces

  28. Millington says

Can someone let me know how to get the stadiums, teams, & updated info that appears on this video? Is there a PS3 version?

  29. Duggan Benson says

  30. Brett Thyren says

If it takes college football players getting paid you can keep the game I don't want it. Rather have the College football in reality stay the way it is than a video game. One of the best things about college football is the fact that the game is pure and they dont play for money. Maybe some of those football players should pay my student loans at $800/month. That way they would realize how much they actually did get paid when they were in college.

  31. Magneto Rex says

    best news of the year

  32. 202stefanie says

bring it backkkkk bring it back bring it back

  33. 12thman Railfans says

If Madden expands the QB1 game mode, please add the following teams:
    -Ohio State
    -Mississippi State
    -Penn State
    -Arizona State
    And finally
    -Texas A&M

  34. Darrek L says

    I’ll be twenty in 2024 ?

  35. St Sm says

What game are these highlights from? If they can have that why not a full game?

  36. Youtoo22 says

How about this if it’s a problem with paying. Give to them the money after their done with college football. Save up what ever money you would get and give it to the player after he’s done with college football

  37. Youtoo22 says

I miss NCAA, I had the last one 2014 NCAA college football

  38. R. Smith says

So how does this affect Marlon Mack?

  39. Hooddowntime says

I read that the NCAA would not work with EA sports again, on top of who wants another shitty Madden Clone

  40. frank wilson says

please tell me where and when to get this gem, can't wait i am seeing the footage here

  41. David Brown says

None of this is even in talks. They are not coming out with a new ncaa game. Videos like this come out every year for likes

  42. Arnaldo Fraire says

It'll be a little while probably next gen

  43. Smith Entertainment says

EA sports and ultimate team is to blame

  44. Hunter Sanschargrin says

It will never happen so quit making these damn videos. EA or whoever has the license would have to shell out money to the players for their “likeness”. There wouldn’t be enough return of investment on the game.

  45. Tha GOAT says

I guarantee EA will have a college game within 2 years. The success that Maxium Football will have this year and next with their college game will bring competition whether it be 2K, EA or IMV. If it doesn't bring competition it will bring financial backers to Canuck which will help turn Maxium Football into a AAA product and they will make the kind of money EA used to make. The college football community is starving for a new game and right now they would do anything for just a little bite hence why Maximum football will probably make a tremendous profit for an indie game.

  46. Edward Coleman says

Please just give me back NCAA college football ?

  47. dont tread on Rick says

I hope that E.A. Don't get it and y2k does!!
